The ‘iPod Effect’ & Electric Cars
AN interesting point of view from an Industry expert on why sales of electric vehicles will increase in the coming years.
Dave Vieau, the CEO of A123 Systems, believes that electric vehicles will have an “iPod effect” in the next 5 years that will spark their demand. A123 Systems manufactures lithium-ion batteries for EVs and is opening a new plant in Detroit to develop battery packs for leading car manufacturers. In response to his critics who believe that there is too little demand for electric vehicles and consequently for lithium-ion batteries, Vieu says that these vehicles will have the same effect on people as the iPod had-once they drive it and realize they are as good as conventional cars, electric vehicles will become a ‘must-have’ item for people, which will spur their sales.
