Fingerprint or face recognition technology may not be very effective in securing information, says a new report.

The National Research Council has released a new report that says Biometric ID technologies are not a foolproof method to protect and secure information. The technology, which recognizes individuals by their fingerprints or using xvoice or face recognition, is not as effective as it is made out to be and can be vulnerable due to several factors such as a user’s age, stress or data degradation and issues with calibration of sensors over time.

Instead, the report suggests, biometric systems should be made more effective by designing processes that manage as well as correct any problems in it, in addition to having secondary screening systems as a backup.
