The iPhone app's success inspired a military-funded 'Apps for the Army' contest earlier this year.

Earlier this year the US Army released their first official iPhone app which connects users with the group’s website, social media networks, news, pictures and videos.  Available on iTunes, the US Army News & Information application is designed for use on both the iPhone and iPod Touch.  Providing direct links to Stand-To! and Army Live blogs and Podcasts, the free app’s tile strategy game lets users test their skills; whilst ‘Fact Files’ offers in-depth information on a number of different aspects to army life, including; equipment, weapons, uniforms, ranks and even the army song.
