A special symposium that will travel to global cities to involve their citizens in addressing issues affecting their life.

The BMW Guggenheim Lab is a collaboration between BMW and the Guggenheim Foundation that aims to engage people in some of the largest cities of the world to address major issues affecting urban life. The mobile lab will travel to each city, inviting people to share ideas and explore new and innovative solutions to the challenges faced by their cities.

The BMW Guggenheim Lab will start next year in North America before continuing to Europe and Asia.

From the press release:

The first BMW Guggenheim Lab will be installed in North America in late summer 2011 and will present programming into the fall of 2011, before moving on to the next two cities on its global tour, in Europe and Asia. The BMW Guggenheim Lab is meant as a space to question relevant topics and themes about our urban environments, but also to explore innovative possibilities to address them. The BMW Guggenheim Lab team, a multidisciplinary group of four young talents who will be the driving force of the Lab, will present their research outcomes through an installation to be on display at the Lab. Additionally, site-specific events and educational programs will include workshops, public discussions, performances, and formal and informal gatherings around a chosen theme, which will tie the program into the everyday fabric of the city.
