Starbucks is currently engaged in a nine-week trial program to recycle its coffee cups, and hopes to reclaim a significant portion of the three billion paper coffee cups used in the US annually. The recycling program, which started in early September, is running at all 86 New York City locations. Stores are outfitted with new just-for-cups recycling bins. Cups are collected by the same company that picks up the company’s cardboard recyclables so additional collection is not required.
