A photography project looks at the sometimes harsh reality of what we consume.

The Value of a Dollar is a thought provoking and unique photography project by Jonathan Blaustein in which he explores how globalization and commodification is affecting the society. Each image in this project displays one dollar's worth of food items from the markets of New Mexico, all de-glamorized and stripped to their natural look.

Jonathan describes his project:

I’m interested in the way photography is used to deceive.  Millions, if not billions of advertising dollars are spent annually photographing food and obfuscating reality.  Fast food conglomerates are certainly the worst culprits, but everywhere we see glamorized versions of what we eat.
