At the Cellcom Media Conference in Tel Aviv earlier this week, Kahina Van Dyke discussed Mastercard’s strategy for moving into mobile payment. The EVP and General Manager at MasterCard said that today about 68 million people are shopping online and consumers’ appetite and demand for virtual experience will drive this figure to about 114m in 2014. She told the audience of over 1,000 company executives that while Internet sales still account for less than 10% of average retail sales, the number of buying decisions influenced by the web is over 50% of sales. Mobile access to the Internet however will outpace PC access and become the primary way that people get information from the web:
