GM announced that assembly of their long awaited Volt electric car began yesterday at the Detroit-Hamtramck factory. The first completed model will head to GM’s museum. The first car destined for a customer(actually the second car to come off the assembly line) will be determined by an online auction. All of the proceeds will be going to the Detroit Public Schools Foundation, supporting science, technology, engineering and mathematics education initiatives in the Detroit Public Schools. The schools hope to use the money to motivate students to take an interest in technology careers by covering the cost of activities such as robotics competitions.
