Wary of conventional surgery, a heart patient successfully develops a life saving device, and in the process, gives hope to others with the same condition.

UK engineer Tal Golesworthy has designed his own heart implant device that saved his life and offers hope to others suffering from a serious heart condition called Marfan syndrome. A few years back, Golesworthy was diagnosed with this inherited disorder and was advised a surgery to insert a mechanical valve inside his heart. But instead of undergoing this risky operation, he decided to develop his own implant that would have lesser chance of harmful clots forming due to the mechanical valve and, along with his team, then set out to make a better model. In the next two years, the engineer came up with a new device made from a standard medical polymer and perfected using rapid prototyping.
