A simple approach to data visualization makes the complex systems of modern consumerism apparent.

The USDA’s Economic Research Service has published a new report in it’s Food Dollar series.

The report slices the Food Dollar three different ways, to shed light on “different aspects of evolving supply chain relationships.”

This startling study illustrates that only 16 cents in each dollar spent on food goes to the farm where it was produced, with the remainder being spent on ‘food marketing’. The Food Dollar infographics series illustrates the complex layers of systems which comprise ‘Food Marketing’.
