iPad TV Viewing Goes Live

Time Warner makes the first move in providing greater flexibility for how it's customers can view live television.

Time Warner will become the first cable company to launch an iPad application that broadcasts live TV. The app will be will available to customers who subscribe to both video and Internet services from the New York-based cable company. The app differs from similar applications and technology, such as Dish Network’s Slingbox, by broadcasting the TV signal over the Internet into subscribers’ homes (whereas the Slingbox “reads” the TV signal in the subscriber’s home and sends it out on the Internet).
