Two screen mediation may represent the most harmonious integration of personal digital devices and TV platforms

If there’s one word which has hung above the TV industry like a proverbial damocles sword, it’s been ‘convergence’. However with such a fluid interactive web ecology surrounding the TV set, it’s difficult to say for certain what will happen as digital media platforms and traditional televisual delivery collapse onto one another.

One change which is taken as a given is that participation will likley replace the traditional model of passive TV engagement.

Watching TV can mean a lot of things: TV via Internet, web content via TV, video on demand, IPTV, cable, satellite, DVB-T, mobile television, etc. Let’s not forget that with broadband internet connections and the integration of Wi-Fi chips into television sets, the technical framework has changed fundamentally.
