Shortage of essential parts for mobile phones and tablets will affect Nokia, RIM and Sony Ericsson

Smartphone sales could drop by as much as 5% this year because the Japanese earthquake in March seriously affected supplies of key parts for a number of suppliers, say industry sources.

Among those affected in the £100bn industry are the world leader Nokia, BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion (RIM) and Sony Ericsson.
