A new app makes use of smart phone technology to assist visually impaired users.

The camera facilities of smart phones have generated a lot of excitement around mobile tagging, but applications such as LucSens Goggles app illustrate that the recognition abilities of ubiquitous digital camera’s have huge potential.

Another example of this potentiality is provided by Look Tel’s money reader app. The program is designed to cater for visually impaired users: it uses the iPhone’s digital camera to recognize US paper currency and speak the denomination back to it’s user.
