Volvo Concept Blends Scandinavian Design And Chinese Philosophy

Volvo unveiled its first concept car reflecting a transition of the brand following the company's purchase by China-based Geely Motors.

Volvo’s Concept Universe is a new luxury vehicle design study which was debuted at the 2011 Shanghai Motor Show. The concept provides a glimpse at a potential future styling direction for the brand which for the first time blends elements of Scandinavian design with Chinese philosophy. The reason for this pairing stems from Volvo being acquired by Chinese owned Geely Motors in 2010. Designers at Volvo were tasked with developing a concept which was not only beautiful to look at but which also visually communicated this new evolution of the Volvo brand.
