Bringing Urban Information Flows To Life Through Sound
Parsons The New School for Design hosts an experimental project turning everyday things into a multimedia artwork.
From May 13th to 22nd an installation will be in place near the campus of Parsons The New School for Design in Manhattan called SoundAffects. This experimental project involves sensors that pick up visual, aural and electronic inputs from things like the weather, sounds, cell phone activity and temperature. These inputs are then given a musical sound and color so people can see and hear alternative versions of what is happening on the street.
There will be listening stations on Fifth Avenue, online there will be a multicolored visualizer alongside a live street view, and a mobile app will enable people to listen live. This concept was created by mono in collaboration with Parsons The New School for Design.
