Italian lighting design company Foscarini will soon open their first US showroom later this year in Soho, NYC. As a preview, they have created a temporary installation in their new space during ICFF 2011 which re-purposes their Tress floor lamp by designer Marc Sadler into a suspended ceiling sculpture. We spoke with Carlo Urbinati, a co-founder of Foscarini who said the installation is meant to preview how the new showroom will operate. It will not be a traditional retail store or corporate showroom, instead he told us the space will feature rotating large lighting installations created from Foscarini products. The company established a special program called “Foscarini Evolution” to produce custom light sculptures in large public spaces. The new showroom located at 17 Greene Street will formally open sometime in the Fall of 2011.
