The coffee house jumps to 3rd place behind McDonald's and Subway on Technomic's annual report of the Top 500.

It was announced last week that Starbucks is now the 3rd largest U.S. restaurant chain. In Technomic’s annual report, it’s U.S. sales for 2010 were $9.07 billion, up 8.7% from the previous year. The coffee giant leapfrogged both Burger King and Wendy’s to take the number 3 spot.

The company seems to have come through its troubles during the recession, and now sits behind top place McDonald’s and no.2 Subway. A key to the success of the highest ranking restaurants seems to be an ongoing shift towards healthier options rather than the standard burger and fries meals. Starbucks was one of the first to remove all artificial ingredients from its food and it offers natural and organic options for consumers.
