In Brief

President of Ultimate Fighting Championship offers bonuses for fighters that engage fans on Twitter.

While the NFL and NBA fine their talent for tweeting, Ultimate Fighting Championship’s Dana White announced that starting June 1st, fighters will be rewarded $5,000 bonuses for doing one of three things in the Twittersphere: get the most amount of followers, receive the biggest percentage increase in their following, or write the most creative tweets. Much like Best Buy’s Brian Dunn, Dana White uses Twitter himself and is a strong believer in its power.

This makes perfect sense and is a great strategy as it brings the real-time engagement element behind Twitter to the live events being broadcasted. It will also ideally result in better engagement between fighter and fan, cultivating more dedicated viewers.
