Philadelphia-based Urban Outfitters recently met with the Westport, Connecticut Planning and Zoning Commission to present preliminary plans for a second Terrain Garden Center. The site of the proposed new location is a former Cadillac dealership which closed in 2009. UO’s plans to reuse most of the existing building and convert much of the car lot into a landscape nursery. Ken Nemeth, Urban Outfitters’ senior development manager hinted at what they are thinking of doing on the site.

We’re going to use our own landscaping team to landscape every free area we can. We’re going to do some very unconventional, beautiful things with the landscaping.

This marks the first time Urban Outfitters has attempted to open another branch of their Glen Mills, Pennsylvania flagship referred to as Terrain At Styer’s. That location includes a full plant nursery, retail shop and greenhouse cafe presented in a rustic modern style. If the local government approves the plans, it will be interesting to see how the design team deals with the existing architecture of the dealership.
