We've been told to drink at least eight glasses a day - But is the tide finally turning on the health benefits of H20?

There's a been a public health campaign called ‘Hydration for Health' that promotes drinking water as a way to help prevent disease. It is sponsored by Danone who also owns bottled water names like Evian, Volvic and Badoit.

GP and columnist Margaret McCartney has complained about the message, explaining that there are not enough facts to prove that drinking eight glasses of water a day is good for anybody.

But the idea that the more water we drink, the better it is for our health is a common belief. Times columnist Dominic Lawson has even accused his sister, popular TV chef, Nigella as an ‘aquaholic.'
