The new Facebook Messenger app was released this week, which lets you have group conversations and reach both your Facebook friends and your mobile contacts. Once signed in with your Facebook account, you can access all the conversations in your Facebook Messages and Chat, interact with existing threads or start a new one.

A Guide To The Facebook Messenger App

You can send messages to friends one on one or start a group conversation. Type the person’s name in the ‘To’ field and if they’re listed in your contacts, they’ll receive your message as a text. If they’re your friend on Facebook, it’ll either arrive on their Messenger app (if they have it too) or in their Facebook Messages. You can include a picture with your message, enable location sharing to let your friends know where you are and change the name of the conversation so you can keep track of what’s being discussed.

You can also choose to receive notifications so you never miss a message. These can be turned on and off for each individual conversation or for all of your conversations at once. Facebook Messenger is available for iPhone and Android devices and will soon be available for Blackberry users too.
