Facebook Gives Real-Time Updates With ‘Ticker’ Feature

Facebook introduces a new feature that may be part of a larger real time strategy to counter growing competition.

Last week, Facebook announced new developments on their blog that indicated the future implementation of a homepage ticker feature that would deliver status updates, likes, tags and comments in real time. The main feed, on the other hand, will continue to list the top stories but will be renamed ‘Highlights.’ While the feature is gradually being rolled out, ‘All Facebook,’ an unofficial blog on Facebook news, says the new ticker is part of a broader strategy to combat the increasing competition from Google+.
