RRKidz will be the new take on Reading Rainbow and will be produced exclusively for the iPad. The popular American children’s television show, hosted by LeVar Burton, aired on PBS from 1983 until 2006. The series inspired children to read, with each episode focusing on a theme from a book. RRKidz will revamp some of the Reading Rainbow episodes with more interactive multimedia on the iPad. Once it’s launched, the app will feature voiceovers, animations, games and videos for 300 books.

The new venture was spearheaded by Burton, and will run a monthly subscription model and Burton hopes that with the popularity of eBooks, the app will further encourage children to read and explore more book titles.
