The NILS concept, shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show, is VW's response to the problem of urban commuting.

Volkswagen's NILS concept aims to offer an alternative transportation solution to urban commuting. The single seater electric vehicle is a study at melding sustainability, design, and lifestyle in a new way. Powered by an electric drive system, the lightweight car can achieve a top speed of 81mph according to VW. The interior is simple and functional with driving information displayed via a LCD panel. A unique bit of included technology is the Portable Infotainment Device (PID). The touchscreen PID snaps into the dashboard and allows the driver to access navigation, music, telephone, and vehicle information such as charge status. The PID is removable and can be used outside the vehicle as well.
