Apple’s New App Rivals Location-Based Services

Find My Friends will allow users to locate their family and friends at any given time.

At the recent Apple’s ‘Let’s Talk iPhone’ event, Eddy Cue who is the Senior VP of Internet  Software and Services, unveiled a new feature that will come with the iOS 5 update. The Find My Friends app allow users to track and locate their friends and family members at any given moment. Cue explained that the new app would make it more convenient for family members to track each other in Disney World. Of course, the user will need to opt into the service in order to be found. The app would also come with privacy settings and also parental controls.

The Find My Friends app will compete against similar location-based services, like Google’s Latitude service, AT&T’s FamilyMap service and the popular app Foursquare. No pricing details were released but the Find My Friends app will be launched in conduction with Apple’s iOS 5 release.
