Beat generation author Jack Kerouac wrote his first novel in 1942, and after 70 years it has been published. Kerouac himself thought it was a terrible piece of literature, and while critics agree that it wouldn’t be published if it weren’t for the author’s fame, it does provide an interesting insight into his life and development. The Guardian.
