News is not something that is only spread through professional mediums or broadcasts anymore. More often than not, we get our news from the source or at ground level via real time social media streams such as Twitter and Facebook. In fact, depending on who we follow and what happened, it’s very possible for a story to break nationally, and sometimes even globally, before the media has even had an opportunity to report on it. And even after it has been picked up by the traditional media outlets we’re still just as likely to watch a story develop through our social streams as we are through legitimate reports. News is no longer a story or series of stories but an aggregated conversation composed of several streams of real time information.
