Twitter Adds New Activity And @ Panels

The social networking site revamps features to monitor your presence and see how communities overlap.

Select Twitter users received a notification Wednesday, upon signing in to their accounts, drawing attention to two new features on the social networking site, a reworked ‘@’ panel and an ‘Activity’ feed.

The Activity panel brings a lot of different information together in a Newsfeed-like stream. Favorites, follows, retweets, list adds and more from the people you follow. Whenever anything happens in your Twitter community, it will show up here. It is designed in a way to encourage a look beyond just who you follow by bringing their public interactions to one place, effectively creating a space for network overlap.

In the @ panel, users find the previous ‘@Mentions’ and ‘Retweets’ panels combined into one. Here @ mentions, retweets (of both kinds) and follows are streamed so you can monitor and manage your Twitter presence more effectively than with the old panels.

What do you think of these changes? Do they offer anything new that wasn’t available elsewhere? How do you like their design? Let us know in the comments…or on Twitter!
