Recently, news outlets have begun using Twitter as means to advertise content, and have paid some to Tweet about themselves.

The Hartford Courant and The (New Orleans) Times Picayune have begun using Twitter for advertising purposes, such as offering twice daily deals to local businesses and paying athletes to tweet about their stories. Putting aside ethical issues, it seems unlikely that the idea will catch hold, as creating a middleman is redundant on Twitter. Nieman Journalism Lab.
