Choice of an online venue trumps an established auto show.

Instead of hosting a traditional media only press conference at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, Nissan is using social media to give everyone a chance to have a first look at their new 2013 Pathfinder. The vehicle will be introduced on Facebook at 8:30AM Eastern on Monday January 9th.

New Pathfinder content for Nissan’s Facebook fans will be posted every two hours during the day following the reveal. Ahead of the debut, two videos on youtube give a sneak peek of the new design.

The move to a social media based debut by Nissan is similar to how Ford debuted their 2011 Explorer on Facebook two years ago. While Nissan is the second to exclusively debut a new model through social media, many of the other automakers at the Detroit Auto Show are live streaming their vehicle premiers making it possible for anyone to virtually attend almost all of the events on press days.
