Racing Game Converts iPad Into Interactive Playmat [Future Of Gaming]

The Walt Disney Company has created Appmates, a game for Apple’s iPad that features game-pieces which can interact with an iPad screen

In our research for the Future Of Gaming report, the PSFK consulting team explored the ways developers are making their games compelling and accessible to a wider audience. One example of innovation in Game Functionality And Systems is Disney’s Appmates. Media conglomerate the Walt Disney Company has created Appmates, a game for Apple’s iPad that features game-pieces which can interact with an iPad screen. Miniature figures have special sensors mounted on their bottoms, that when pressed against the tablet’s screen, turn the iPad into an interactive racing playmat. Players can engage in races with other characters, complete missions to pick up virtual cash, or just explore in-game environments.
