Photographer Faces His Fears To Get Thrilling Views Of Terrifying Heights

In an attempt to overcome his fear of heights, Detroit-based photographer, Dennis Maitland sought out the highest locations for the vertigo-inducing images in his series, Life on the Edge. Instead of a remote shutter release, he took his camera and captured each photograph himself, sitting on the ledge of a building while his legs dangled dangerously over the edge, snapping the scene below. Using a wide angle lens and focusing on his kicks, the perceived height appears much lower than it actually is.
