Google has filed a patent that would give users more freedom and increased security.

Patently Apple reported Google’s recently filed patent that essentially provides users with new ways to unlock their smartphones. One of the highlights of this patent is where phone owners can use simple voice commands to unlock handsets. In addition, the patented technology can also simultaneously bring up apps or execute commands when the phone is unlocked. For example, you can set your mobile device to automatically check your e-mails or launch an application once unlocked.

Although the voice-enabled unlocking feature sounds great in principle, netizens are already wondering if it’s practical to have the microphone always on, and if it would be an intrusion to their privacy.
