Geckskin is a product enhancement inspired by biomimicry, designed by a team from the University of Massachusetts.

A team from the University of Massachusetts have created a powerful adhesive inspired by the clinging power of gecko feet. “Geckskin” is 16 inches square and can hold up 700 pounds on a smooth surface such as a wall or window. It can easily be disengaged and reused many times with no loss of effectiveness, and leaves no sticky residue.

A gecko’s foot has several interacting elements, including tendons, bones and skin, that work together to produce easily reversible adhesion. This inspired the scientists to create an integrated adhesive with a soft pad woven into a stiff fabric, which maximizes surface contact.
