Parents Keep Tabs On Their Teen Drivers With OnStar’s Vehicle Tracking Service
General Motors launches Family Link -- a GPS-based location service available on all equipped vehicles.
General Motors has recently launched a subsidiary service via its OnStar division that allows drivers to track family members via GPS. Family Link is available on all OnStar-equipped vehicles from GM’s lineup including Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac. The location-based service will notify users of the specific location of each family member and alert them via email and text when the vehicle arrives at a location or at a specific time.
Targeting parents who want to keep track of their children, the service is facing issues such as violations of privacy and security. OnStar vice president of subscriber services, Joanne Finnom, counters that Family Link is what subscribers have been looking for and that “it provides them peace of mind by staying connected to their family when they’re on the road.”
