Cyberpunk is a theme that explores postmodern life with high-tech elements in an often oppressive environment. The BikeBorg is inspired by this subculture that allows the rider to connect as one with the bike, while protecting the cyclist from the harsh environmental damage such as pollution.

The concept was created by a group of students from the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design. The designers envisioned major cities in the future to have fuel shortages, long-term financial instability, and heavy air pollution. The BikeBorg addresses these issues with embedded sensors that can measure the level of pollutants and a helmet-mask to protect the user. The suit would let users physically connect with the bicycle, allowing them to transfer data and energy between when cycling.
