In collaboration with Desperados Beer, the Electro Afro Pop band, ‘The Very Best’ was scheduled to perform a live gig in London. However the lead singer, Esau Mwamwaya, had problems with his Malawi passport and couldn’t enter the country. Instead of canceling the gig, the group used digital technology to ‘teleport’ Mwamwaya on stage during the event.

Working closely with Digital Domain, Mwamwaya performed a full-length concert in front of a green screen in Malawi that included ‘interactions’ such as talking to his band members and engaging the crowd. The captured footage was then projected on a screen at the concert and seamlessly blended in with the environment.

The virtual gig was a success with the crowd and the band. Watch the video below to see how the concert was put together.
