Algae Opera is a unique performance with a blend of music, science, and food. Opera singer Louise Ashcroft wears a biotechnology suit as that is able to convert her breath into algae. These photosynthetic plant-like organisms feeds off the carbon dioxide as Ashcroft sings. Afterwards, the audience can also “taste her song” by sampling some of the algae produced.

The composition of the song and the singer’s vocal ability is utilized to produce high-quality algae-product, and to “enrich its taste.” The different pitches and frequencies are able to make food taste either bitter or sweet. The Algae Opera event can be booked online for £30.00, which includes the dinner set, CD, booklet, and badge.
