Artist uses sparky rhinestones to raise awareness on an important issue.

Artist Kali Arulpragasam, who is also sister to the rapper M.I.A., has used a unique medium to get her message across about promoting equality around the globe. Arulpragasam has created a necklace with a world map as the pendant, and using different colored gemstones to highlight the inequality experienced in each country between females and males when it comes to education and employment.

The large gold-plated jewelry is a visual representation of data where blue rhinestones means least inequality, and red rhinestones show most inequality. Arulpragasam explained that, “I want people to get interested in these topics and I use jewelry as a tool. I can go sit in the UN, or some charity, or Shoreditch House, everybody's attracted to the sparkly materials of this medium.”
