AOL has introduced a new cloud-based email platform called Alto that is designed to be used with existing email accounts including AOL, Gmail, Yahoo!, and iCloud. The free client aims to combat inbox fatigue with its visual layout, organizational features, and clear user experience.

Users can create ‘stacks’ that automatically organize important pieces of their inbox (like photos, attachments, social notifications, daily deals, etc.) for easy access and quick viewing. Users can also drag and drop individual emails to create their own customized stacks based on sender, recipients, keywords, and more.

You’ve Got Mail: AOL Introduces New Email Client Alto

You can merge multiple email accounts and search through all of them at once, and “snooze” emails so they appear back at the top of your inbox at a later time. Joshua Ramirez, senior director of product for AOL Mail, said:

We built Alto for people who believe, as we do, that organization is beautiful, who are overloaded with email and aren’t happy with the status quo of existing email experiences. The way we use email has changed radically over the years, but the core email application experience hasn’t. We’ve taken a deep look at how people use email now, and designed an application around that reality.
