7 Necessities is a series of 3D printed beauty objects each with secret protection and defense functions.

Jewelry designer Ted Noten exhibited a collection at Design Miami 2012 he believes includes everything a woman may need in a survival scenario. 7 Necessities is a kit of fashion accessory items such as a purse and sunglasses. Noten also designed a number of ‘exceptional' items including a chastity belt, beauty mask and a gun. Many reveal their true function through secret compartments which house protection and defense items.

All of the pieces were designed digitally and produced with a 3D printer. Noten and his team hand crafted fine details for each piece out of gold, silver and rare gems. The project shows a new interpretation of traditional female beauty items. Noten mixed digital mass production techniques with handcrafted precious materials to blend the worlds of art and design. With the collection, Noten questions the perception of craftsmanship. Is digital design and production now at a level comparable with traditional handcraft?
