Artists create pieces from salvaged items that will be auctioned off to benefit the storm's victims.

Reclaim NYC is a project initiated by a group of designers asking other design community members and artists to create furniture pieces by using scraps and wreckage from Hurricane Sandy. Each item will be auctioned off, with the money being donated to the victims who lost their homes and businesses during the storm.

The initiative hopes to “reach out to the design community with an opportunity to help those who have suffered terrible losses during the storm.” The first auction will be held on 19 December, with works made by 24 artists and designers. Some of the furniture includes a lamp made from a salvaged electrical junction box, and a standing lamp made from a rusty garbage can.
