Communications agency Grey London, has initiated a corporate cultural experiment called Open, where the conventional pyramid based organizational structures of firms has been flipped to foster greater collaboration between departments, the agency and clients. Removing sign-off requirements that bolstered the significance of “management” and hindered progress, management has been reframed as coaches and cultural guardians.

Workers are celebrated as agents of completing great work, and managers are responsible for facilitating collaboration and empowering worker ideas. By creating a more harmonious, less hierarchical culture and reinforcing set of systems that allows every individual to be the best they can be, both staff and client satisfaction scores have skyrocketed.
