The star of the 2013 New York Auto Show is a Subaru, yes you read that right. The brand which for many years was synonymous with rally racing debuted a new concept called the WRX. While the name is familiar, the car shows a new styling direction for the iconic Impreza-based model that devoured both asphalt, gravel and dirt on the World Rally Championship. Building on the success of Subaru’s BRZ sports car, the automaker says it is committed to offering performance models.

The early 90’s Impreza WRX gained a devoted following but recent iterations have suffered from a toned back design. This WRX Concept shows some clear inspiration taken from those 90’s models especially in the front fascia.

Details are scarce and no production dates have been announced, so click through the images below to get a sense of the car’s visual presence.
