French architect Jean Nouvel is certainly no stranger to the aesthetics of form and for his latest project he brings his distinct creative style into the design of a pair of sneakers for the Italian brand Ruco Line. The collection, called Pure Capsule Collection, will make its first international appearance at this year’s Milan Design Week and will be featured as part of the INTERNI hybrid architecture and design exhibition at the Università degli Studi di Milano.

The shoe  looks more like a low-cut leather boot with its side zipper closure and simple, smooth and contoured form than a sneaker. The shoes are made of high quality leather and come in black, white, yellow, and fluorescent pink. Aside from the small print the indicating product name, color code, style, and production date on the upper part , the shoe has no other detail or embellishment. According to Nouvel, he wanted the design to accentuate the archetype of a shoe and be ‘pure, simple, direct.’ The small print is meant to make the shoe distinct and personalized.

Watch the designer talk about the collection in the video below.
