Saks Rewards Employees Who Eat Healthy, Local Food

Department store uses LocalSqr app to connect employees with nearby farmers markets and producers.

New app LocalSqr aims to create connections between local food producers and people who love good food. It locates farmers markets and other food suppliers in the area, rewarding users if they buy from there.

LocalSqr also wants to help people make the transition to a healthier, more conscious lifestyle. It’s ‘Go Local Corporate Initiative‘ is an 8-week program that utilizes the app and healthy programming.

Saks Fifth Ave Encourages Employees To Eat Healthy, Local Food

The ‘Healthy Bootcamp” email campaign is designed to engage and educate employees about healthy eating by getting them back into the kitchen and cooking nutritious family meals.

TechCrunch reports that LocalSqr recently partnered with Saks Fifth Avenue for a pilot program with 165 employees. They each used the app, received a weekly email containing nutrition advice and healthy recipes, and were asked to keep a food diary. As a result, 52% of them cooked at home more and 57% purchased food from local markets. Saks now plans to expand this program nationwide.
