Outdoor Amphitheater Is Also A Rice Paddy [Pics]

H&P Architects' Pavilion of Dream Terraces is a concept design covered with terraced rice fields for Expo 2015.

H&P Architects have created a concept design for Vietnam’s Pavilion at Expo 2015 in Milan that consists of a structure covered with rice fields. The ‘Pavilion of Dream Terraces’ competition entry is a symbolic reference to Vietnam’s cultural history that boasts a simple installation and a low cost.

An Urban Rice Paddy Pavilion [Pics]

The structure’s steel frames are covered with salvaged wood, and there are steps up the sides of the pavilion for people to climb and walk between the areas where rice can be planted. These help the microclimate, provide food and create a striking image both outside and in.

Inhabit notes that the building’s interior space could be used for various exhibits, with natural light shining through from between the different levels. Click through to see pictures of the design proposal:
