Czech companies build a prototype cycle with battery-powered propellers.

A group of Czech companies have developed a prototype flying electric bike that was able to hover in the air for several minutes with a dummy rider on its seat.

The 220-pound flying two-wheeler is outfitted with six battery-powered propellers–two in front, two in the back, and two at the sides. With the dummy rider onboard, it was able to successfully fly around for a few minutes inside an exhibition hall in Prague. Duratec, the Czech bicycle maker, is involved in the project.

According to one of the project members, the flying bike was created to fulfill one of their science fiction fantasies. The bike is currently controlled from the ground via a radio controller, but the creators hope to build a version that can carry a live rider by the end of the year.
