To celebrate their 125th anniversary, National Geographic have gone digging around in their gargantuan archive of photos an uncovered a collection of rare and vintage photos – many of which can be viewed on their specially-created Tumblr called FOUND.

Many of the photos dug out from the archive have never been published, making them akin to coveted treasure. This is especially true when you consider that many of the photos no longer have a date or location attributed to them, giving them a mysterious aura.

Nat Geo’s Tumblr page states that the pictures are just the beginning, with plans to add new voices, stories and artefacts as time goes by. Be sure to see what the page has to offer if you’re looking for some inspiration, or maybe just a blast from the (undiscovered) past.
